Mobile App Usability Study

Role: Interviewer and UX Designer | Company: I Can Haz Cheezburger

The Challenge

I Can Haz Cheezburger wanted to explore whether a mobile app for sharing funny cat pictures, videos, and memes through text messages would resonate with users. They provided wireframes for an early version of the app and needed quick feedback to validate if this type of interaction was desired and how people naturally share amusing content with friends.

The Approach

My role was to design and conduct a usability study around the provided wireframes. Key steps included:

  • Interview Script: I created a guided storytelling script to help participants immerse themselves in the context and better imagine using the app.

  • Recruitment: Participants were sourced through online forums and personal connections to ensure a mix of perspectives.

  • Usability Sessions: I facilitated sessions where participants interacted with the wireframes and shared their thoughts, behaviors, and preferences around sharing humorous content.

The Outcome

The study surfaced important insights into how users prefer to share content, expectations for message-based sharing, and areas where the wireframes could be improved for clarity and engagement. These insights gave the team direction on how to refine the app experience and evaluate whether this product direction aligned with user behavior.

Takeaway

This project showed me the power of context-driven storytelling during usability testing. By helping participants imagine real scenarios, I was able to uncover richer insights that informed product direction and validated the value of quick, lightweight user research.
